About Mercura
Self-hosted code hosting built around Mercurial. A distributed version control platform for teams that value data ownership.
Why this system exists
Most code hosting platforms are centralized, proprietary, and lock teams into external infrastructure. Mercura offers an alternative: self-hosted, open, and built around Mercurials distributed architecture rather than vendor lock-in.
Engineering philosophy & approach
Mercura is designed to be self-hostable on standard servers, Mercurial-native with first-class support for distributed workflows, Git-compatible with a read-only Git mirror for ecosystem interoperability, and lightweight with minimal resource requirements.
System architecture
Mercura consists of a core repository management engine, a web interface for browsing commits and code review, an automation API layer, a user authentication and granular access control system, and an event notification system.
Core system capabilities
- First-class Mercurial repository hosting and management
- Read-only Git mirror for ecosystem interoperability
- Web-based code review and changeset inspection
- Granular authentication and repository access control
- Lightweight single-server footprint with SQLite storage
- Comprehensive REST and CLI automation API
- Extensible plugin architecture hooks
